In order for an explosion to occur, three factors must be present: fuel, ignition source and oxygen. In many work environments, combustible dust may act as the fuel that causes explosions.
Therefore it is very important for hazardous facilities to take the proper steps in preventing these explosions.
Some ways to prevent combustible dust explosions from occurring are:
- Capture the dust to avoid its spreading. The dust capturing may be accomplished using proper dust collection equipment, like explosion proof vacuums.
- Store the dust in environments that exhibit the least amount of risk (i.e. environments lacking any potential ignition sources).
- Good housekeeping to keep work surfaces free from dust to avoid any dust accumulation.
